Episode 008 - Lynn Tredeau

Episode eight is ready and available for your listening and dining pleasure. This time around, I sit down for a conversation with pianist Lynn Tredeau

After a career teaching piano, Lynn decided it was time to start writing and recording her own music. Our conversation comes on the eve of the release of her latest album, Fellowship of Solitude.

Listen in as we talk about Lynn's music and the differences she sees between her music and "traditional" New Age music. We also discuss telling stories instrumentally, the importance of spirituality in her music, and how her travels influence her compositions.

Lynn and I discuss her new home (where the interview was recorded) and its influence on her latest album. We talk about the unique pre-release campaign she is running for Fellowship of Solitude as well as her actual release plans.

We also talk about Lynn's past life as a piano instructor, her most memorable performing experience (it might surprise you) and her tour plans for the rest of 2018. (Hint: she will be busy.)

Along the way, we'll hear a song from Lynn's third album, A New Dream, as well as two songs from the upcoming album.

Episode 007 - Joseph L. Young

Episode Seven is here and features conversation and music with multi-instrumentalist Joseph L. Young.

During the course of our conversation, Joseph and I talk about the evolution of New Age music and his hopes that his new album, Every Moment, might help to redefine what New Age music is, especially where the saxophone is concerned. We also talk about what made him choose to do a saxophone album.

Joseph and I talk about how he got interested in ethnic flutes, the growing number of sub-genres under the New Age umbrella, the older demographic that follows New Age music, a demographic that is now attracting younger listeners.

Along the way, we talk about the challenges for instrumentalists in finding performance opportunities in the area and the effort he is involved with that is trying to change that situation. And we even manage to slip a little discussion of quantum physics. All that, plus Joseph treats us to some ethnic flute improvisation, and we'll share two songs from the new album.

Episode 006 - Steve Eaton

Episode Six is here at last! In it, I sit down with the incomparable Steve Eaton for a nearly 60-minute conversation.

Picture of Steve Eaton performing at a house concert
Steve opens up this episode with a performance of his song "The Bridge" and talks about how the song came about. From there, he discusses his desire these days to write songs that "mean something."

In this wide-ranging conversation, Steve touches on the lack of modern-day protest songs and on the ways in which religion and faith have changed since he was growing up.

Steve discusses some of the changes in the music industry and talks about how hard it is for musicians to make a living these days. He also shares the story of how The Carpenters came to record his song "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song."

From there, Steve discusses the positive aspects of being on a record label, his days on the Sandpiper Circuit, and he talks about the beginnings of and the future for the Idaho Songwriters Association, the group he co-founded nearly a decade ago.

Steve also shares his song "Where Do I Fit In?" and closes the episode with the title cut from his 1974 album, "Hey Mr. Dreamer."
