Episode 007 - Joseph L. Young

Joseph L. Young, performing on one of his world flutes
Episode Seven is here and features conversation and music with multi-instrumentalist Joseph L. Young.

During the course of our conversation, Joseph and I talk about the evolution of New Age music and his hopes that his new album, Every Moment, might help to redefine what New Age music is, especially where the saxophone is concerned. We also talk about what made him choose to do a saxophone album.

Joseph and I talk about how he got interested in ethnic flutes, the growing number of sub-genres under the New Age umbrella, the older demographic that follows New Age music, a demographic that is now attracting younger listeners.

Along the way, we talk about the challenges for instrumentalists in finding performance opportunities in the area and the effort he is involved with that is trying to change that situation. And we even manage to slip a little discussion of quantum physics. All that, plus Joseph treats us to some ethnic flute improvisation, and we'll share two songs from the new album.
