Audio Issues, Editing, Distribution, and More

After having to do a quick re-edit in order to get Episode 3 up, I decided to do a bit more research into the audio side of things. I watched a few videos dealing with my audio editing application of choice, Audacity (because it's free), and I think I now have at least some of those issues figured out.

As a result, Episode 4 (dropping next week) should sound better, or at least the audio should be a bit more consistent from start to finish. The audio will also hopefully improve as I produce more episodes.

Speaking of episodes, I finished the initial edit of Episode 4 today. I'll be giving it a listen early next week to make sure everything sounds as good as I can make it and will then post it on Anchor.fm (the mother ship, as it were).

I originally planned to post new episodes on the 10th and the 25th of each month, but I've already jumped the gun on that. I then, mentally at least, changed the schedule to the 5th and 20th of the month.

Now, however, I think I am going to go with a specific day of the week. For now, the plan is to post new episodes on the first and third Friday of the month. If I am able to schedule things out several interviews, then Measured Voices may move to a weekly schedule, with episodes posting every Friday.

On the subject of distribution, if you happen to use the Castbox podcast app, you can find Measured Voices there. We're also available now on Google Play Music, iTunes, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Stitcher Radio, and of course, Anchor. The podcast has also been submitted to Spotify, so that will hopefully be an option soon.

I also have a new mixer to use for producing Measured Voices, which will hopefully add some flexibility if not quality to the podcast.

Don't forget to reach out, here on the blog, on Facebook, on Twitter (@MeasuredVoices), or via email (measuredvoices at gmail.com) if you have questions, comments, or suggestions (such as if you have an Idaho songwriter you'd like to have featured). Keep listening!

Spreading The Word - Update

Measured Voices will soon also be available on Acast. You can get the Acast app from the Apple App Store, from the Google Play Store or from Microsoft.

No word yet on whether Measured Voices will be available on Spotify. Please let me know if there are other places I should submit in order to make Measured Voices easier to get and listen to.

Measured Voices on Stitcher

Measured Voices is now available on Stitcher. You can download the Stitcher app for Apple, Android, or PC here. Here is episode three as displayed by Stitcher:

I'm still working to get the podcast on Spotify, but that will take longer.

In the meantime, you can follow Measured Voices on Facebook, Twitter (@Measured Voices), or through the pages of this blog.

New Place To Listen

Measured Voices is now available through the Overcast app. Here's the link to go directly to the podcast: Measured Voices on Overcast. The button to click has been added to the Where To Listen section just to your right on this page. (Yes, right there.)

That means there are now two ways for Apple lovers to listen on their devices. Maybe that will help boost the numbers from non-Android listeners.

I'm still trying to see about getting listed on Spotify. I also want to look into getting on Stitcher as well. Updates as I get them. Please let me know if there are other services I should try to get listed on.

Episode Three - Red Light Challenge

Episode three of Measured Voices is now available for your listening pleasure. In episode three, part one of a conversation with Sean and Kyle Luster of Red Light Challenge. (Apologies in advance for a few audio issues.)

In addition to  performing "I Want To Give Back To You" and "You Got My Number," these brothers from Hawaii talk about how they ended up in Boise, how they go about writing their infectious songs, and about playing as an acoustic duo and also with a full five-piece band. They also talk about the benefit of studying business while pursuing a musical career and the differences between simply singing and performing.

You can follow Red Light Challenge on Facebook and Instagram, and subscribe to their videos on YouTube.

Talking With Fiona Luray

Had a great and enjoyable conversation yesterday with Boise singer-songwriter Fiona Luray. We talked about her love of musicals, how her songwriting has changed since she started out in 2010, the new album she's working on, even farming.

Fiona was also kind enough to play a few of her songs, including one from her upcoming album. Look for that episode to drop in May.

One More Source

Just a quick follow-up to Friday's post. You can now listen to Measured Voices through Google Play Music. (Just click on the button over to the right of your monitor screen.) I'm working to get it on Spotify. After that, I'll also look at getting it on Stitcher. Stay tuned for updates as I work to bring the podcast to a source near you.

Availability Update, Tweaks

Two episodes in, and the tweaking continues. I've been working to change the artwork for the podcast. That is, I think, still a work in progress, especially as I look at the artwork used by others around the podosphere. (Is that a word? If not, it should be.)

I also decided to refine the subtitle and description a bit to make it a little less of a mouthful. I think the new subtitle and description are a little easier to read while saying basically the same thing.

I'm now in the process of having my podcast added to Google Play Music, for those of you who consume content there. I've also submitted the podcast to Spotify for addition, but since my hosting platform is not one of the ones currently listed (supported?) on Spotify, that process is less certain.

Because of that and a couple of other concerns, I am considering a move to a different hosting platform. I like that my current host is free, but there is no guarantee that will stay the case.

I have an alternate hosting service picked out (I think), but I may not make any decision for a little while yet. Stay tuned to these pages. (How's that for a cliffhanger?)

Episode 002 - Johnny Boy Kunk

Yes, boys and girls. It's time for our second episode of Measured Voices. Everybody dance now! (Sorry, I should have resisted that temptation, but I just couldn't.)

Johnny Boy Kunk, Delta Blues artist, joins Walt for a conversation about how a California boy ends up playing the blues in Boise. We’ll also talk about why he sings the blues, how he approaches songwriting, his experiences in the home of Delta Blues, and the response he’s gotten from Boise audiences. In between, Johnny will share a few of his songs.

Follow Johnny Boy Kunk and keep track of his schedule on Facebook.

You can also follow Measured Voices on Facebook as well.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions (or you just want to say hi, just drop us a line at measuredvoices@gmail.com and be watching for future episodes!

Editing Day!

I'm spending the day working on Measured Voices Episode Two, featuring Johnny Boy Kunk. Given that today feels more like February than it does April, it sure beats working outside. I feel for the guys working out in our yard.

Episode two promises to be a good conversation with some even better music. Hope you'll tune in when the episode drops April 10!

Episode 39 - One Last Look Back

Episode 39 of the podcast is now available for your aural enjoyment. It marks the end of our look back. In all, there have been 34 episod...
